Welcome to Counseling Asian Americans. We invite you to explore alongside a group of passionate Master’s of Counseling students who are endeavoring to understand how to better serve our Asian American clients. To do so we are investigating history, cultural values, sociopolitical barriers, and techniques tailored towards serving the Asian American population.
Why is this site useful?
According to the 2010 U.S. Census there are over 17.3 million Asian identified individuals in the United States. Certainly all of us, in the helping professions and beyond can benefit from learning more about the rich and complex heritage of Asian Americans. Even just to learn one new fact as a veteran researcher or to just begin to delve into understanding the context that an Asian American client might be operating from is to become a better advocate for a client and a more aware individual.
